5 Best Books for Dealing With Anxiety and Depression (Quickly)

written by

I know how hard it is to go through a depression and deal with anxiety. I struggled several times with depression and for the last years, I also struggled with the crippling feelings of anxiety. That was a hard period in my life, but after learning a lot about how to ease my anxiety, I realised there was a way back to my non-anxious self again.

Because both anxiety and depression go hand in hand and often fuel each other, I want to give you the 5 most important books I read to overcome my depression and anxiety… so you can do it as well!

#1. Untangle your Anxiety (By Joshua Fletcher and Dean Scott)

If there was only one book I could recommend to understand your anxiety and ease your anxiety related symptoms… it would be Untangle your anxiety from Joshua Fletcher and Dean Scott. This book is your go-to guide for understanding what anxiety is and how it affects your body.

Even though the book is just 180 pages long, it is full of tips and tricks on how to ease your anxiety, how to prevent anxiety from happening in the future and learning how you can go back to your old self… something every anxious person wishes he could go back to.

#2. 101 essays that will change the way you Think (By Brianna Wiest)

This is by far one of the most beautiful books I ever read on mindset. It helped me in a way I cannot describe in words. After I read 101 Essays that will change the way you think, my entire way of thinking (ironically) changed and I never saw the world the same again.

It helped me with overcoming my depression and anxiety related symptoms quite fast. I always was in the habit of beating myself up for not achieving enough, for not being enough and being a failure (and 101 things more)… but Brianna Wiest with her 101 Essays helped me with accepting myself and feeling whole and complete: something I never felt.

#3. The Mountain is You (By Brianna Wiest)

After I read 101 Essays that will change the way you think, I decided to read another book from Brianna Wiest. Well, she definitely didn’t disappoint me with “the mountain is You”! This book is full of beautiful words, metaphors and lines that are really on point, and will help you overcome the mountain in your life: the obstacles you face. And the weird thing is that it is not life who is the mountain, but you yourself.

When you read this book you’ll take back control of your life again. You’ll transform from being a victim of your life, to the captain of your own ship. You’ll realise everything, both the good and the bad, were there to help you to become someone new. The moment you finish this book you’ll become a master at recognizing self-sabotage and overcoming the mountain in your life… which is you yourself.

#4. Anxiety: Panicking about Panic (By Joshua Fletcher)

The second book that I would recommend about easing your anxiety and panic disorder is “Anxiety: Panicking about Panic” from Joshua Fletcher. This 140 page long book is packed with tips and tricks on how to cope with anxiety and panic attacks. After this short book, you know what to do when anxiety hits, how to prevent anxiety from happening in the future and also the most important thing every anxious person wants: feeling your old self again. If you want to feel like the non-anxious you again: this book will push you into the right direction.

#5. Letting Go (By Dr. David Hawkins)

Even though this book is the actual book that got me out of depression, it is the hardest one to read. I have to admit that this is one of the most powerful mindset books on both mindset and spirituality, even though it can be hard to read for some people. David Hawkins shows you how to let go of lower states of consciousness (ways of seeing the world) and embrace more higher states of consciousness.

For example: if there was a wanderer on the streets. A person in a low state of consciousness might be scared of that person and walk away from him, while someone in a high state of consciousness might feel a lot of love towards that person. Letting go from David Hawkins helps you let go of negativity and embrace more love into your life. It is a must-read for everyone who wants to live with less anxiety and depression, but more love and acceptance.
