3 Easy Ways To Reduce Anxiety and Stress

Hi, I am Wouter, a certified NLP coach and I help people overcome their anxiety and panic.

I’ve struggled with severe anxiety for years, and I was just one tense human being that believed he would be stuck forever in anxiety… but the following 3 tips helped me so much with overcoming anxiety, that I want to share them with you… starting with…

Tip #1: Stop figuring out your anxiety

One day I was so anxious out of the blue, that I started to ask myself:

Where in the name of God does all this sudden anxiety come from? It makes no sense.”

I was worried about my anxiety and tried to figure out what could possibly cause it.

But then I reminded myself of the important principle that I teach my clients: you don’t need to figure out your anxiety.

Yes, it is important to identify triggers and possible causes, but you do that in a calmer state, not at moments when you feel anxious.

Why is this so important? Because when you are anxious, your rational brain gets overtaken by your emotional brain. The one who screams ice cream, while your rational brain tells you, you are on a diet… the part of your brain that then makes you eat that ice cream.

Well, the emotional, anxious brain overtakes the rational brain which makes your thinking biased, distorted and highly emotional. So, you’ll notice that during anxious periods it is very hard to think clearly and logically.

And when you try to figure out where your anxiety comes from this creates 2 problems:

  1. The first problem is that you’re likely to end up nowhere, because your emotional, anxious brain gives you clues that are extremely exaggerated.
  2. And the second problem is that trying to figure out your anxiety adds another worry on top of the pile of all the other worries you have.

And more worry, creates more stress and more stress can result in more anxiety.

I highly recommend you watch my FREE training to overcome anxiety, where I explain this in more depth.

But just this tip is not enough to beat anxiety… there is something else that works like a magic…

Now I look back on the last 2 years, which were the most anxious years of my entire life, I know why my anxiety was that severe.

I worried a lot because of the global situation. I had many life changes, like job changes and people who passed away… and I had no ways of destressing as we were all forced to stay home and avoid human connection.

All people have an internal stress jug. Whenever we feel stress we fill the jug, but if we keep filling the jug with stress and don’t find ways to empty the jug… it overflows, which is anxiety.

And what is one of the best ways to empty the jug?

Tip #2: Exercise

When you struggle with anxiety or panic attacks, one of the best ways to empty your jug is to start with regular exercise. Because when you do this, you get rid of your anxious, energetic energy that gets stuck in your body.

Exercise tips to reduce anxiety

Anxiety is just aroused energy. But the problem is that most anxious people try to sit still and figure out why they are anxious, while the best thing they can do is keep doing what they were doing or have some exercise.

This gets rid of the anxious energy and after each workout your body releases many feel-good chemicals that change the way you feel for days.

And as a bonus: you feel more confident and work towards a better body.

Fitness, going for a run or some aerobic exercise are a great way to do this… even if you do it twice a week for just 10 minutes.

But there is something else that beats anxiety.

Tip #3: Detox your environment

We are all sensitive to our environment. When we live in stressful environments for too long, we take on that stress. Therefore, it is very important that you take a critical look at your environment and start to detox your life of what bothers you.

Do you feel like your house needs a proper cleaning? Do you go to your job that you actually don’t like? Or do you have a gut feeling that you deserve a better partner?

It can be hard to face your problems in life, but learning to face your problems and solving them eliminates much of your worries. And when you eliminate worries, you reduce stress and eventually anxiety.

Detox your house anxiety

What are some stressors or problems in your life? Things you want to let go of? Write them down, because becoming aware of them is the first step to letting them go. And writing them down also reduces your tendency to worry, as you’re now actively solving problems instead of worrying.

And when you wrote them down, can you identify 3 things you can do to solve the stressor or problem? And as well, write down the consequences of each solution. Because that makes it easier to pick the right solution and apply it.

Detoxing your environment from the things you don’t like is a very helpful way to beat anxiety.

And something else…

Conclusion

Can we both agree that this is your time? Now is the time you take control of your life, instead of letting life control you. You are the artist of your own life, the writer of your own story.

And in every story the hero encounters difficulties and problems… but when he pushes through discomfort, he eventually arrives exactly where he always wanted to be. Your struggle with anxiety is the same. In your anxiety are the lessons you need to become the person you were always destined to be. It will make you a way stronger person, and often… more resilient than 99% of the entire population, as you have to handle fear often and they don’t.

You heard me say that worry is a major cause of anxiety, so I highly recommend you read this article, where I teach you how to instantly worry less.
