So, you want to learn how to reduce anxiety quickly?
Then I have 3 easy tips for you that will supercharge your healing.
Hi, I am Wouter, a certified NLP Coach and I help people overcome their anxiety and panic based on what worked for me.
Let’s cut to the chase and go quickly to tip #1!
Tip #1: Stop figuring out your anxiety
The first tip I have for you is that you have to stop figuring out your anxiety.
One day I was just watching television and suddenly became extremely anxious out of the blue.
And during that moment I was continuously asking myself:
Why am I so anxious? It makes no sense!”
I was continuously worried about my anxiety, if it would go away and what could possibly cause it.
But then I reminded myself of the important principle that I teach my coaching clients:
“You don’t need to figure out your anxiety to overcome it.”
Yes, it is important to identify triggers and possible causes, but you do that when you feel calm, not when you’re feeling anxious, because thinking clearly becomes freakin hard.
And now you wonder: Well, why is this so important?
That is because when you are anxious, your emotional brain takes over your rational brain. And your emotional brain is the part of your brain that screams “ice cream”, while your rational brain screams that you’re still on a diet.
That’s why we still eat the ice cream.
Human beings are complex creatures.
Well, when you are anxious, your emotional brain takes over, which makes your thinking very emotional and out of proportion. That’s why you’ll notice that when you’re feeling anxious it is very hard to think.
And if you try to figure out your anxiety, this creates 2 big problems:
- The first problem is that you’re likely to end up nowhere, because your emotional, anxious brain gives you reasons for your anxiety that are extremely out of proportion.
- And the second problem is that trying to figure out your anxiety adds another worry on top of the pile of all the other worries you already have.
And more worry, creates more stress and more stress can result in more anxiety.
I highly recommend you watch my FREE training to free yourself from anxiety, where I explain this in a lot more depth.
But just this tip alone is not enough to reduce anxiety… there is something else you need to do.
Now I look back on the last 2 years, which were the most anxious years of my life… I know why my anxiety was so intense.
I worried about the global situation, I had many life changes, some people close to me died, and I had no ways of releasing all my anxious energy.
All people have an internal stress jug. Whenever we feel stress we fill the jug, but if we keep filling the jug with stress and don’t find ways to empty the jug… it overflows, which is anxiety.
And what is one of the best ways to empty the jug?
Tip #2: Exercise
The second tip I have for you to reduce anxiety is to exercise.
Regular exercise helps you tremendously with getting rid of anxious energy, that otherwise would stay stuck in your body.
Anxiety is nothing more than aroused energy. But the big problem is that most people try to sit still when they are anxious and begin to worry about why they’re feeling anxious.
All while the best thing they can do is keep doing what they were doing or have some intense exercise.
Three reasons why this is so effective:
The first reason is that you get rid of your anxious energy.
Secondly, your body releases many feel-good chemicals that change the way you feel for days later.
And third, you feel more confident and work towards a better body.
I can read your mind: “Do you ask me to add hours of exercise to my week?”
No… not at all! Try to find ways to add some exercise to your weekly schedule… even if you do it only twice a week for 10 minutes!
But there is something else you need to do to reduce anxiety.
Tip #3: Detox your environment
The third tip I have for you is to detox your environment.
When we live in stressful environments for too long, we take on that stress. Therefore, it is very important that you take a critical look at your environment and start to detox your life of what bothers you.
Do you feel like your house needs a proper cleaning? Do you go to a job that you actually don’t like? Or do you have a gut feeling that you deserve a better partner?
It can be hard to face your problems in life, but learning to face your problems and solving them eliminates much of your worries. And when you eliminate worries, you reduce stress and eventually anxiety.
What are some stressors or problems in your life? Things you want to let go of?
Write them down, because becoming aware of them is the first step to letting them go. And writing them down also reduces your tendency to worry, as you’re now actively solving problems instead of worrying.
And what do you do when you’ve written these things down? You brainstorm about what 3 things you can do to solve the problem.
And when you wrote down these action items… also write down the consequence of each item. This makes it easier to pick the right solution and put it into motion.
Detoxing your environment from the things you don’t like is a very helpful way to reduce anxiety.
And something else I want you to know is this…
Can we both agree that this is your time? Now is the time YOU take control of your life, instead of letting life control you. You are the artist of your own life, the writer of your own story.
And in every story the hero encounters difficulties and problems… but when he pushes through discomfort, he eventually arrives exactly where he always wanted to be.
Your struggle with anxiety is exactly the same. In your anxiety are the lessons you need to become the person you were always destined to be. It will make you a way stronger person, and often… more resilient than 99% of the entire population, as you have to handle fear often and they don’t.
